India, Finland renew MoU on environmental cooperation

New Delhi: India and Finland renewed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen India Finland environmental cooperation in areas such as pollution control, waste management and climate action.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and Finland’s Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala signed the agreement in New Delhi.

The renewed pact builds on the earlier MoU signed in 2020 and aims to deepen collaboration through knowledge sharing and technology partnerships.

India Finland environmental cooperation to expand climate and waste initiatives

Under the agreement, both countries will collaborate on preventing and controlling air and water pollution, including remediation of contaminated soil.

The partnership will also cover waste management initiatives such as hazardous waste treatment, recycling systems and waste-to-energy technologies.

Officials said the MoU promotes cooperation in the circular economy and encourages low-carbon solutions for sustainable use of natural resources and forests.

The agreement also includes joint work on climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental and forest monitoring, and improved data management systems.

In addition, the two countries will cooperate on conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources along with integrated water resource management.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed new opportunities to expand collaboration in the circular economy through focused dialogue and joint initiatives.
