New Delhi: An Indian Armed Forces contingent arrived in Seychelles to participate in the 11th edition of the joint military drill Exercise Lamitiye with the Seychelles Defence Forces.
The exercise is being conducted at the Seychelles Defence Academy from March 9 to March 20. “Lamitiye,” which means “Friendship” in the Creole language, is a biennial training event held in Seychelles since 2001.
This edition marks a milestone as personnel from all three services of the Indian Armed Forces are participating in Exercise Lamitiye for the first time.
The Indian contingent includes troops from the ASSAM Regiment. The Indian Navy is participating with INS Trikand, while the Indian Air Force has deployed a C-130 aircraft.
Officials said the joint exercise aims to improve cooperation and interoperability between the armed forces of both countries. It also focuses on strengthening coordination during peacekeeping operations.
Exercise Lamitiye focuses on semi-urban combat training
During Exercise Lamitiye, troops from both sides will jointly train, plan, and execute tactical drills designed for sub-conventional operations in semi-urban environments.
The training will include the use of new-generation equipment and modern technologies while addressing potential threats that may arise in such environments.
The 12-day programme will feature field training exercises, combat discussions, case studies, lectures, and demonstrations.
The exercise will conclude with a two-day validation exercise to assess operational readiness and coordination between the participating forces.
Officials said Exercise Lamitiye will strengthen military cooperation and build deeper understanding between Indian and Seychelles troops while enhancing operational coordination.
