New Delhi: The Indian Navy training squadron arrived at Changi Naval Base in Singapore on January 15, 2026, strengthening maritime cooperation under ASEAN–India engagement and India’s leadership of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium.
The First Training Squadron comprised INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata, and Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarathi. The squadron is on a training deployment to the South East Indian Ocean Region, aimed at enhancing professional exposure for naval trainees.
The visit gained significance as 2026 is being observed as the ASEAN–India Year of Maritime Cooperation. Officials said the deployment reflected India’s commitment to deeper naval engagement with Southeast Asian partners.
During the visit, Indian Navy and Republic of Singapore Navy personnel planned harbour activities and professional interactions. These included structured training exchanges, joint yoga sessions, and friendly sports fixtures to enhance interoperability and mutual understanding.
Cultural outreach formed a key part of the programme. The Indian Naval Band performed at prominent public locations in Singapore. The visiting ships were also opened for school children to promote maritime awareness.
