New Delhi: Indian Railways announced plans to operate more than 1,410 Holi special trains this year to ensure smooth and comfortable passenger travel during the festive season.
The Railways said the number of Holi special trains was likely to increase up to 1,500 based on demand. These services are scheduled to run during March to manage the surge in passenger movement between major destinations. In comparison, Indian Railways operated 1,144 special train trips during Holi 2025.
Zone-wise planning showed a significant scale-up in services. East Central Railway will operate the highest number with 285 Holi special trains. Western Railway has planned 231 services, while Central Railway will run 209 trains. South Central Railway will operate 160 special services, and Northern Railway has scheduled 108 trains.

North Western Railway will run 71 special trains, while North Central Railway has planned 66 services. Both North Eastern Railway and East Coast Railway will operate 62 trains each. South Western Railway will run 47 services, and West Central Railway has planned 43 trains.
Southern Railway will operate 39 Holi special trains, while South East Central Railway will run 15 services. In addition, Konkan Railway will operate nine special trains, and Northeast Frontier Railway will run two services to cater to regional passenger demand.
Indian Railways said the extensive deployment of Holi special trains reflected its commitment to passenger convenience, safety and efficient operations during major festivals. Officials said the additional services would help reduce congestion and ensure smoother connectivity across the network.
