Indian truck drivers arrested in US with cocaine worth ₹62 crore

Indiana: Two Indian-origin truck drivers were arrested in the United States after police seized 309 pounds of cocaine worth nearly ₹62 crore during a highway inspection in Indiana, officials said.

Police identified the accused as Gurpreet Singh, 25, and Jasveer Singh, 30. Officers stopped the truck on Tuesday morning while it was heading towards Richmond. During the inspection, sniffer dogs alerted officials to the presence of narcotics.

Officers later found the cocaine concealed in cardboard boxes stored beneath the sleeper berth of the truck. Police said the seized contraband had a high street value and posed a serious threat to public safety.

Cocaine seizure US follows routine highway inspection

Police said the cocaine seized during the operation could have killed more than 1,13,000 people. Investigators described the haul as one of the significant drug recoveries made during routine highway checks in the region.

During questioning, the drivers claimed they were unaware of the drugs hidden in the vehicle. They told investigators that unknown persons had instructed them to drive the truck to an Indian restaurant in Richmond for loading.

Both Gurpreet Singh and Jasveer Singh remain in custody as authorities continue the investigation. Police said they were probing the supply chain and possible links to a larger drug trafficking network.
