Hyderabad: Chaos erupted at Shamshabad airport on Thursday after IndiGo cancelled 92 flights, triggering protests from stranded passengers. The airline halted 43 inbound flights and 49 outbound services without prior notice, causing major disruption to domestic travel.
Many travellers who had already checked in were shocked to learn that their flights had been called off. They criticised the airline for not giving advance alerts or alternate arrangements. Passengers said airport staff failed to offer clear answers, adding to the confusion and delays.
A few agitated travellers staged brief protests inside the terminal, demanding accountability for the sudden cancellations. Several said they had planned the trips weeks in advance and were now left with no backup options.

IndiGo also cancelled eight flights from Visakhapatnam bound for key cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. These disruptions affected business travellers, families, and religious pilgrims alike.
Among those affected was Andhra Pradesh Minister Parthasarathi, who was at Shamshabad airport waiting for a flight to Vijayawada. He noticed a group of Ayyappa devotees who were anxious about missing their connecting flight to Sabarimala due to the delays.
The minister intervened directly. He contacted Union Minister Ram Mohan and helped arrange a special flight for the devotees. This last-minute step allowed them to continue their pilgrimage as planned.
Meanwhile, Parthasarathi, who also missed his flight, left for Vijayawada by road. The Ayyappa devotees later thanked him for stepping in and resolving the issue swiftly.
Despite repeated demands from passengers, IndiGo did not immediately provide a reason for the mass cancellations.
