Integrated planning to match megacity scale, says Ponnam Prabhakar

Hyderabad: District In-Charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Telangana government was pursuing Hyderabad infrastructure planning with integrated measures to match the scale of the city’s rapid expansion as a megacity.

The Minister made the statement after inaugurating the newly constructed Chikkadpally–Domalguda link bridge across the Hussain Sagar surplus nala, along with Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation built the bridge at a cost of ₹6 crore to improve connectivity in central parts of the city.

Ponnam Prabhakar said Greater Hyderabad had grown into the country’s largest city in terms of area and population after the merger of surrounding municipalities within and beyond the Outer Ring Road. Therefore, he said civic infrastructure must expand proportionately to meet rising public needs.

He said the government was focusing on roads, stormwater drains, street lighting, parks, and other essential amenities under comprehensive planning. Moreover, he added that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was giving special priority to strengthening urban infrastructure across Hyderabad.

As District In-Charge Minister, Ponnam Prabhakar said he would work in coordination with all elected representatives to ensure better civic facilities. He added that Hyderabad’s status as the State headquarters required focused attention to improve quality of life.

Hyderabad infrastructure planning eases commuter travel

The opening of the Chikkadpally–Domalguda link bridge is expected to provide major relief to commuters in central Hyderabad. With the bridge now operational, travel time between Chikkadpally, Ashok Nagar, and Domalguda is likely to reduce significantly.

Officials said the new link will also improve access towards Liberty Junction, the GHMC head office, and the Secretariat. As a result, commuters can avoid longer detours and traffic congestion in the area.

Residents living on both sides of the surplus nala welcomed the bridge inauguration. They said the project resolved long-standing distance and connectivity issues faced by daily commuters.

Member of Parliament Anil Kumar Yadav, MLA Muttha Gopal, Deputy Mayor Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, and senior civic officials attended the inauguration. Local corporators and engineers from GHMC were also present.
