New Delhi: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said the International Solar Alliance has emerged as a powerful platform for global cooperation in advancing solar energy.
Addressing the ISA Foundation Day celebrations in New Delhi, the minister said the alliance reflects the strength of global partnership in accelerating the clean energy transition.
He noted that the organisation now includes 125 member and signatory countries working together to expand solar deployment across the world.
According to Joshi, the alliance demonstrates the Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which promotes the idea that the world is one family.
He said the initiative highlights how countries can cooperate to ensure equitable access to clean and sustainable energy.

International Solar Alliance expands global solar cooperation
The alliance was jointly launched by India and France during the COP21 in Paris in 2015 under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
Joshi said the organisation has helped convert the promise of solar energy into real impact by supporting projects across developing and emerging economies.
He added that ISA initiatives have improved energy access by solarising health centres, powering irrigation systems and supporting cold storage facilities.
The alliance also encourages innovation by supporting startups and training young professionals in solar technologies.
According to the minister, global solar capacity is expanding rapidly as countries invest heavily in renewable energy.
India’s solar growth and future clean energy transition
Joshi highlighted that India’s installed solar capacity has reached nearly 136 gigawatts, representing almost half of the country’s renewable energy capacity.
He said government programmes such as PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM are enabling households and farmers to benefit directly from solar energy.
The minister also said digital technologies and artificial intelligence will play a major role in future energy systems.
In this context, the ISA is advancing the Global Mission on AI for Energy to build smarter and more resilient power systems.
Officials also announced the ISA Green Hydrogen and Storage Start-up Challenge 2026 during the event.
The initiative aims to support innovative startups working on green hydrogen and energy storage technologies.
ISA Director General Ashish Khanna said the alliance has grown into a coalition of countries united by the goal of expanding access to solar energy.
He added that ISA will continue working with member nations to improve energy access, strengthen livelihoods and promote sustainable development worldwide.
