Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court issued notices to the state government over IPS postings in IAS cadre roles. The action followed a petition that questioned the legality of Government Order (GO) 1342.
The petitioner, lawyer V. Sreekanth from Secunderabad, claimed the appointments violated cadre rules. Justice Surepalli Nanda heard the matter and asked the government to file a counter.
According to the petition, GO 1342 assigned IPS officers to key IAS posts. These included Stephen Ravindra as Civil Supplies Commissioner and Principal Secretary. Shikha Goel was appointed Vigilance Commissioner with Principal Secretary rank. C.V. Anand was made Principal Secretary to the Home Department.
Petition links IPS postings to phone tapping probe
The petitioner also raised concerns about a phone tapping investigation. He noted that any related departmental reports must go to the Home Department. Since it is headed by an IPS officer, he argued, the setup could affect internal accountability.
Therefore, the petition urged the court to review the appointments. After hearing the arguments, Justice Nanda adjourned the case to December 10. The government must now respond on whether such IPS postings in IAS cadre are legally valid.
