Julurupadu ganja seizure busts inter-state smuggling network

Hyderabad: The Julurupadu ganja seizure exposed an inter-state smuggling network after police seized 105.54 kg of cannabis and arrested three persons.

Police conducted the operation on Wednesday evening during joint vehicle checks by Julurupadu police and CCS teams. Acting on specific inputs, officers intercepted two cars and recovered contraband hidden inside.

DSP Adinarayana said the seized ganja was worth about Rs 52.77 lakh. He revealed the details during a press conference on Thursday.

Officers stopped two vehicles and found 52 packets of ganja concealed in them. As a result, police detained three persons travelling in the cars.

During questioning, the accused admitted they sourced the ganja from Kalimela and Donkarai in Andhra Pradesh. Therefore, investigators identified an organised supply chain.

According to police, the accused planned to transport the ganja to Hyderabad via Bhadrachalam, Palvancha and Kothagudem. However, officers intercepted them before the consignment reached the city.

Police arrested Shivakar Pramod Kumar, 35, and Baireddy Bhargav, 30, from Nalgonda district. In addition, they arrested Andekar Srinivas, 40, from Vanasthalipuram in Rangareddy district.

Officers seized the contraband, two cars and four mobile phones from the accused. Meanwhile, three suspects identified as Abi, Lakshman and Farooq remain absconding.

Police teams have launched a manhunt to trace the remaining accused. Moreover, officials said strict action will continue against drug trafficking.

DSP Adinarayana said that since January 2025, police registered 86 cases and seized 6,844 kg of ganja worth about Rs 34 crore. He added that authorities also invoked the PD Act against three accused and attached their properties.

Officials said intensified enforcement will continue to curb smuggling networks. Senior officers also appreciated the police team for the operation.
