Hyderabad: Police detained Telangana Jagruthi president and former MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha during a Velugumatla demolition protest in Khammam district on Monday.
Kavitha staged the protest along with people affected by demolitions in Velugumatla. Meanwhile, police also took Dharmasamaj Party president Dr Visharadhan Maharaj into custody.
The protest soon led to heavy traffic congestion in the area as supporters gathered at the site.
Earlier, Kavitha addressed the demolition victims and assured them of her support. She said she would stand with the affected families until authorities delivered justice.
The BRS leader also criticised the government for ignoring the concerns of the victims.
Velugumatla demolition protest blocks traffic in Khammam
Kavitha later led a demonstration at the ZP junction in Khammam. As a result, protesters sat on the road and demanded justice for families affected by the demolitions.
Soon, traffic piled up on both sides of the junction due to the road blockade.
Police then reached the spot and detained Kavitha along with several protesters.
However, supporters at the site continued raising slogans and expressed solidarity with the demolition victims.
