Kazipet railway division demand raised by KTR over rail burden

Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao urged the Centre to establish a Kazipet railway division, citing rising operational burden on the Secunderabad Division.

In a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, he said restructuring within South Central Railway and the operationalisation of South Coast Railway had increased pressure. As a result, he said the Secunderabad Division had expanded beyond manageable limits.

He noted that the division currently covered 2,755 track kilometres. Moreover, it was expected to grow to around 3,150 kilometres with new double line sections between Wadi–Raichur and Vishnupuram–Bibinagar.

He argued that this exceeded standard administrative norms followed across Indian Railways. In comparison, Vijayawada and Guntakal divisions handled about 2,200 kilometres, while Guntur division remained under 900 kilometres.

Kazipet railway division proposed to ease administrative load

KTR said the Kazipet railway division would address the imbalance and improve operational efficiency. He proposed including sections such as Kazipet–Balharshah and Peddapalli–Nizamabad in the new division.

He also listed Kazipet–Yerrupalem, Dornakal–Manuguru and Sathupalli, Motumari–Vishnupuram, and Kazipet–Wangapalli routes. According to him, these sections formed a high-density network of 1,500 to 2,000 kilometres.

He urged the Centre to review redistribution plans affecting key sections. For instance, he opposed shifting Peddapalli–Nizamabad to the Hyderabad division and sought its inclusion under Kazipet.

Similarly, he asked authorities to reconsider the transfer of the Latur Road–Parli Vaijnath section to Nanded Division. He said such moves could reduce efficiency.

KTR highlighted Kazipet’s strategic position at a major railway junction. He noted that triple line works and the sanctioned quadruple line had strengthened corridor capacity.

He also pointed to infrastructure such as a railway manufacturing unit, a Rolling Overhaul shed, and maintenance facilities at Mahabubabad. In addition, he said freight routes carrying coal, cement, fertilisers and food grains added strong revenue potential.

He concluded that creating a Kazipet railway division would reduce operational burden and improve railway management in Telangana.
