Krishna Janmashtami celebrations draw 35 lakh devotees to Mathura-Vrindavan

Mathura: Krishna Janmashtami celebrations across the country on Sunday drew 35 lakh devotees to Mathura-Vrindavan, with elaborate festivities marking Lord Krishna’s birth anniversary.

The Krishna Janmashtami celebrations at Lord Krishna’s birthplace in Mathura attracted 25 lakh devotees by evening, while Vrindavan hosted 10 lakh worshippers. Long queues formed outside the famous Banke Bihari temple as devotees waited for darshan.

Artisans in Mathura spent six months preparing special attire for the deity at Krishna Janmabhoomi, incorporating gold and silver threads in the fabric. The clothing features all seven colours of the rainbow in its intricate design.

The Krishna Janmabhoomi temple was decorated under the ‘Operation Sindoor’ theme for the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. The flower pavilion housing the deity was adorned with sindoori flowers specially procured from Kolkata and Bengaluru.

Mathura’s skilled craftsmen dedicated half a year to creating the ceremonial dress for the deity, using precious metal threads to enhance the garment’s spiritual significance. The rainbow-colored attire symbolised divine beauty and cosmic harmony during the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations.

The ‘Operation Sindoor’ theme transformed the temple complex with vibrant red flowers, creating a striking visual backdrop. Temple authorities arranged special floral decorations from distant cities to ensure authentic sindoori blooms enhanced the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations.

The massive gathering of 35 lakh devotees across Mathura-Vrindavan demonstrated the enduring appeal of Lord Krishna’s birth anniversary, with pilgrims travelling from various states to participate in the sacred festivities.
