Hyderabad: K. T. Rama Rao on Thursday criticised Bharatiya Janata Party leaders over Telangana formation remarks made in Parliament, accusing them of disrespecting the State’s history.
In a statement, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president objected to comparisons drawn between Telangana’s formation and the Partition of India, calling them insensitive and misleading.
He said such comments undermined the pride of Telangana’s people and ignored the sacrifices made during the statehood movement.
“From Narendra Modi to Tejasvi Surya, there has been a pattern of statements that distort the narrative of Telangana’s formation. The people of Telangana will remember these remarks,” he said.
Telangana formation remarks draw sharp response from KTR
KTR said Telangana was achieved through years of struggle and sacrifice, not as an act of political goodwill. He added that equating the movement with tragic historical events distorted its democratic nature.
He also criticised BJP MPs from Telangana for remaining silent in Parliament when the issue was raised. According to him, their lack of response raised concerns among the public.
At the same time, he noted that some Congress MPs had voiced concern, contrasting their response with that of BJP representatives.
He said people were closely observing how elected leaders handled issues affecting the State. He further alleged that political interests were being prioritised over regional concerns.
KTR demanded that Tejasvi Surya withdraw his comments and issue an unconditional apology. He also called on the BJP to clarify its stand, stating that silence could be seen as endorsement of such views.
