India Advances Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses

Hyderabad: The Government of India launched the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, a centrally sponsored initiative approved in October 202It aims to boost domestic production and reduce reliance on imports. The six-year mission, which covers 2025–26 to 2030–31, carries a financial outlay of Rs. 11,440 crore. It seeks to move the country toward complete self-sufficiency in pulses.

The mission prioritises Tur, Urad and Masoor. It promotes climate-resilient seed availability for farmers. It also aims to expand the area under pulses cultivation. Further, it focuses on improving post-harvest storage and management technologies to support better utilisation of produce.

Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses focuses on expanded production goals

Under the mission, assured procurement support for Tur, Urad and Masoor will continue for four years through NAFED and NCCF under the Price Support Scheme of PM-AASHA. The initiative aims to enhance productive land use through horizontal and vertical expansion of pulses into underutilised and competing crop areas. It also encourages sustainable crop rotations and improved soil health to raise overall land productivity.

The mission targets a total pulses output of 350 lakh tonnes by 2030–3In addition, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare continues to implement the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension. This effort strengthens farmer-driven extension services through Agricultural Technology Management Agencies at the district level.
