MoSPI to hold national workshop on harmonizing administrative data

New Delhi: Using Administrative Data for Governance will take centre stage as the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) convenes a National Level Consultative Workshop on February 24, 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan.

The workshop will bring together officials from States and Union Territories. In addition, representatives from Central ministries and key institutions will participate. The meeting forms part of the preparations for the National-Level Deliberative Summit “Data for Development,” scheduled for April 2026.

Using Administrative Data for Governance gains structured push

Importantly, the summit follows the 5th National Conference of Chief Secretaries held in December 2025. Therefore, MoSPI aims to advance a structured national agenda for strengthening administrative data systems.

During the consultative workshop, officials will brief States and UTs on objectives and scope. Moreover, they will outline key issues for discussion at subsequent State-level workshops. These internal consultations will generate inputs for the April summit.

Meanwhile, experts from government, international agencies, academia and industry will deliberate on harmonizing departmental data. They will also showcase successful use cases. As a result, participants can draw lessons from proven governance models.

Furthermore, the initiative seeks to enable responsible data harmonization across departments. By aligning systems, governments can improve evidence-based policymaking. At the same time, better coordination can enhance public service delivery.

Officers from Planning and IT Departments of States and UTs will attend the workshop. Likewise, representatives from Central ministries will join the discussions. Subsequently, insights gathered at the State level will feed into the national summit.

Ultimately, through the Using Administrative Data for Governance initiative, MoSPI intends to strengthen coordination and improve data quality nationwide. In turn, this effort is expected to support more transparent and efficient governance across India.
