New Delhi: The National Career Service portal shortlisted more than 2.23 crore jobseekers as of January 20, 2026, the government informed the Lok Sabha.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment operates the portal as a one-stop digital platform. It provides access to jobs from private and government sectors across the country.
In a written reply, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje said reporting final hiring numbers is not mandatory on the portal. However, she clarified that shortlisting data reflects strong engagement between employers and jobseekers.
The portal supports job search, matching and application services. In addition, it offers information on online and offline job fairs.
The platform also delivers career counselling and vocational guidance services. These services aim to help youth make informed career decisions.
To improve employability, the portal provides multiple online learning options. These include employability enhancement programmes, digital skill courses and self-paced career skill modules.
The government said these tools focus on building essential workplace and digital skills. As a result, jobseekers can improve readiness for changing labour market demands.
National Career Service expanded counselling and outreach nationwide
To strengthen guidance support, the portal includes a dedicated module for certified career counsellors. As of January 20, 2026, more than 1,180 counsellors had onboarded on the platform.
Through this network, over 55 lakh online and offline career guidance sessions have been conducted nationwide. The ministry said this outreach helped students and jobseekers across regions.
Moreover, Model Career Centres set up in States and Union Territories regularly conduct awareness programmes. These centres organise workshops and orientation sessions for various stakeholders.
To increase visibility, the ministry releases regular social media updates on portal services and vacancies. It also publishes monthly e-newsletters highlighting new developments and activities.
According to the government, these outreach measures aim to widen access to employment services. They also help connect employers with suitable candidates.
The minister said the portal continues to evolve as a digital employment ecosystem. It focuses on improving access, guidance and employability for aspiring youth.
