Navi Mumbai Haj House: CPWD signs MoU to build pilgrim facility

New Delhi: The Haj Committee of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Public Works Department to construct the Navi Mumbai Haj House at Kharghar as a transit and training centre for pilgrims.

The project received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Minority Affairs on January 21, 2026.

Officials estimated the project cost at ₹225 crore. The Haj Committee of India will fund the construction.

Under the agreement, CPWD will execute the project following its established procedures. The department will handle planning, design, and construction of the Navi Mumbai Haj House.

Authorities said the facility will serve as a modern transit-cum-training and facilitation centre for Indian Haj pilgrims.

The centre will provide orientation, training sessions, accommodation, and other support services. Officials said these facilities will help pilgrims prepare better before travelling to Mecca for Haj.

The project also benefits from its location near the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Navi Mumbai Haj House planned near upcoming airport for easier pilgrim travel

Officials said the Navi Mumbai Haj House will be built close to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Once the airport becomes operational, pilgrims will gain better connectivity and smoother travel arrangements.

Authorities believe the location will significantly improve logistical support for Haj travellers from across the country.

The facility is expected to enhance pre-departure arrangements and accommodation support for pilgrims.

Officials also said the centre will function as a major hub for training and logistical coordination.

Earlier, Ministry of Minority Affairs Secretary Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar visited the proposed site in November last year.

Officials from the Haj Committee of India and CPWD accompanied him during the inspection.

During the visit, the team reviewed the layout and design plans for the upcoming facility.

They also discussed implementation timelines and technical requirements for the project.

Officials examined connectivity, logistics, and other amenities to ensure the centre can meet the needs of Haj pilgrims.

The government said the Navi Mumbai Haj House reflects its effort to strengthen infrastructure and improve services for Indian Haj pilgrims.

Once completed, the centre is expected to significantly improve travel preparation, accommodation, and logistical support for pilgrims across the country.
