NMDC achieves 100% placement for Bastar youth through skill development

New Delhi: NMDC achieved 100% placement for 80 youth from Bastar after they completed job-oriented training under its skill development programme, the company said on Thursday.

NMDC Limited hosted the first batch of trained candidates from the Bastar division, marking a milestone in its efforts to promote Atmanirbhar youth and inclusive growth in Chhattisgarh. The programme formed part of NMDC’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and focused on employability-driven training.

The training was conducted under NMDC’s Skill Development initiative in partnership with the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology. The programme targeted unemployed and less-privileged tribal youth and aimed to equip them with industry-relevant skills for sustainable livelihoods.

Senior NMDC leadership attended the felicitation and interaction session. Those present included Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Vinay Kumar, Director (Technical) and Director (Commercial, Additional Charge), and Shri Joydeep Dasgupta, Director (Production) and Director (Personnel, Additional Charge). Senior officials from NMDC and CIPET also participated.

NMDC skill development empowers Bastar youth

The students came from districts including Dantewada, Bastar, Sukma, Narayanpur, Kondagaon and Bijapur. Many described growing up with limited opportunities and few career choices. They said the training programme gave them confidence to seek work beyond their hometowns.

Sukhram, a Class 12 pass youth from Bastar, said securing a job would change his family’s future. He said he never imagined leaving his hometown for work but now felt confident about earning independently.

Addressing the trainees, Shri Amitava Mukherjee said their transition into formal employment showed the impact of opportunity. He noted that the programme was not only about jobs but also about inclusion in the country’s growth story. He added that skilling youth remained central to building an Atmanirbhar Bastar and a more inclusive Viksit Bharat.

Shri Vinay Kumar said NMDC had played a key role in Chhattisgarh’s development over the years. He extended his best wishes to the students as they began their professional journeys. Shri Joydeep Dasgupta described the placements as a stepping stone and encouraged the youth to keep learning and work towards entrepreneurship.

Under the programme, eligibility was kept broad with a minimum qualification of Class 8. This ensured inclusion of school dropouts and youth from economically weaker sections. The first batch included 80 sponsored students, all of whom secured placements.

Under its CSR initiative, NMDC partnered with CIPET to provide free skill training to 500 youth from Dantewada and Bastar districts. The programme offers courses ranging from short-term operator-level training to diploma and postgraduate diploma programmes in plastics technology.
