Hyderabad: The Union Government told the Lok Sabha that no new heritage conservation projects had been sanctioned for Telangana by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), including in Nalgonda district. Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat provided the information in response to a query from Congress MP Kunduru Raghuveer.
Although no fresh projects were approved, the Ministry of Culture stated that eight centrally protected monuments in Telangana continued to receive routine maintenance and preservation. Officials clarified that conservation is an ongoing process, carried out based on requirements and available resources.
The Centre also noted that all protected monuments in Telangana are currently in good condition. These include historic forts, temples and other archaeological sites under the ASI’s jurisdiction.
ASI allocated ₹45.68 crore to Telangana over four years
The Ministry shared year-wise funding details for the conservation of monuments in the state. In 2022–23, ASI allocated ₹15.50 crore. In 2023–24, the figure was ₹14.38 crore. For 2024–25, the allocation stood at ₹6.80 crore. Additionally, ₹9 crore had been released up to November 25, 2025, for the 2025–26 financial year.
