Dhaka: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla on Tuesday attended the Tarique Rahman swearing-in ceremony in Dhaka and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to the newly elected Bangladesh Prime Minister to visit India.
According to PIB Delhi, Shri Birla represented India at the ceremony of the new Government of Bangladesh led by Prime Minister Shri Tarique Rahman. On behalf of the people of India, he extended warm congratulations to the new Prime Minister.
During his visit, the Lok Sabha Speaker called on Prime Minister Rahman and handed over a personal letter from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The letter invited the Bangladesh Prime Minister to visit India at the earliest convenience.
Shri Birla reiterated that India stands ready to support Bangladesh’s efforts to build a democratic, progressive and inclusive nation. He also reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening the enduring partnership between the two neighbouring countries.
Leaders meet on sidelines of Tarique Rahman swearing-in
On the sidelines of the Tarique Rahman swearing-in, Shri Birla held meetings with several regional leaders. He met H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, and H.E. Mr. Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan.
The interactions focused on reinforcing bilateral cooperation and regional collaboration. Officials said the meetings reflected India’s continued engagement with neighbouring countries in South Asia.
Shri Birla’s participation in the ceremony underscored India’s support for democratic processes in Bangladesh. The visit also highlighted the importance India attaches to its ties with Dhaka.
