Hyderabad: N. Uttam Kumar Reddy reviewed paddy procurement preparedness during an inspection at Huzurnagar market yard in Suryapet district.
He said the government is making extensive arrangements to ensure smooth Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations during the Rabi season.
Paddy procurement preparedness for Rabi season gains momentum
The Minister stated that Telangana aims to procure around 90 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this season.
Moreover, he assured that officials will reach every farmer and process payments within 48 hours. As a result, the government expects to minimise delays and improve efficiency.
Telangana’s Rabi output is likely to exceed 148 lakh metric tonnes. Therefore, authorities have strengthened infrastructure to handle the higher production.
Paddy procurement preparedness ensures infrastructure and logistics
Officials are setting up over 8,251 purchase centres across the state.
In addition, the government has supplied more than 16 crore gunny bags to support storage and transport. Each centre will function under a designated officer to ensure monitoring and transparency.
These officers will oversee procurement, quality checks, and payment processes.
Paddy procurement preparedness focuses on MSP and monitoring
The government will ensure MSP rates of ₹2,369 per quintal for common grade and ₹2,389 for fine varieties.
Meanwhile, strict monitoring systems are in place to prevent diversion and ensure fair procurement practices.
The Minister also directed officials to ensure smooth movement of paddy without hurdles.
Paddy procurement preparedness addresses millers’ concerns
The Minister discussed issues related to boiled rice procurement under central policies.
He noted that reduced allocation and stricter norms have raised concerns among millers. However, the state plans to coordinate with the Union government to resolve these issues.
Telangana aims for another record procurement season
Recalling the previous Kharif season, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the state procured about 72 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.
Furthermore, the government transferred over ₹19,500 crore directly to farmers.
Overall, the state is strengthening systems to handle another potentially record-breaking season while ensuring farmer welfare.
