PM GatiShakti Network Planning Group evaluates 352 projects worth ₹16.10 lakh crore

New Delhi: The Network Planning Group under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan evaluated 352 central infrastructure projects worth ₹16.10 lakh crore to ensure integrated and multimodal planning, the government told the Lok Sabha.

Out of the 352 PM GatiShakti projects examined through the NPG mechanism, 201 projects received sanctions. Of these, 167 projects moved into the implementation stage. Officials said the evaluations focused on last-mile connectivity, inter-ministerial coordination, data-driven planning, and comprehensive development around project locations.

The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan was launched in October 2021 as a unified framework for infrastructure planning. Under this framework, the Network Planning Group reviewed projects at the planning stage to synchronise execution across sectors such as roads, railways, ports, aviation, energy, and urban development.

The Ministry of Finance also provided ₹5,000 crore to States as a 50-year interest-free loan for infrastructure development. The assistance was released under Part-II of the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment for 2022–23. The funds supported State-level PM GatiShakti projects aimed at boosting capital expenditure.

Monitoring of large central infrastructure projects costing ₹150 crore and above continued under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. From July 2025 onwards, MoSPI published flash reports on project status and cost overruns on the PAIMANA portal.

PM GatiShakti projects monitored through PMG mechanism

To accelerate execution, the government integrated the PM GatiShakti framework with the Project Monitoring Group. The PMG monitored projects worth ₹500 crore and above through milestone-based reviews and a five-tier escalation system. Officials said this system helped resolve bottlenecks by escalating complex issues up to the PRAGATI platform when required.

According to ministry-wise data, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways accounted for 164 evaluated projects with an estimated cost of ₹8.61 lakh crore. The Ministry of Railways followed with 137 projects worth ₹4.22 lakh crore. Other major contributors included the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, NICDC under DPIIT, and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

State-wise allocations showed that West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra received significant approvals under the interest-free loan scheme. Telangana received ₹100 crore for one approved project, while Odisha did not receive allocations under the scheme.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada shared this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
