New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the start of his 25th year as the head of a government by expressing gratitude to the people of India. He recalled taking oath as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 and said he had worked with a constant goal — to improve lives and advance India’s progress.
Modi said Gujarat faced a tough time when he first took charge. The state was recovering from a massive earthquake, while earlier years had brought a super cyclone, droughts, and political instability. These hardships, he said, strengthened his resolve to serve people with renewed energy and hope.
He shared his mother’s advice from that period — to always work for the poor and never accept a bribe. He said he had promised to act with honesty and compassion towards the last person in the queue.

Talking about Gujarat’s transformation, he said the situation was once bleak. Farmers lacked power and water, agriculture was weak, and industries had slowed down. Through collective effort, however, Gujarat emerged as a model of good governance and development.
The Prime Minister said the state, once drought-prone, later became a leader in agriculture. Industrial and manufacturing growth expanded, and infrastructure improved rapidly. He added that peace replaced the curfews that once disrupted daily life.
Recalling his nomination as the Prime Ministerial candidate in 2013, Modi said the country was facing a crisis of trust and governance. The people, he said, gave his alliance a strong mandate and his party a clear majority in 2014.
Since then, he said, India has witnessed major changes. More than 25 crore people have come out of poverty, and the nation has become a bright spot in the global economy. He highlighted reforms that empowered women, youth, and farmers through decisive policies.
According to him, today’s public sentiment is to make India self-reliant in every sector. The slogan “Garv Se Kaho, Yeh Swadeshi Hai” reflects this national confidence. Modi again thanked citizens and said service to the nation remains his greatest honour. Guided by the Constitution, he reaffirmed his pledge to work harder for a Viksit Bharat.
He shared these thoughts through a series of social media posts covering key milestones — his 2001 oath, his mother’s message, Gujarat’s rise, the 2013 candidature, and his national commitment to development.
On this day in 2001, I took oath as Gujarat’s Chief Minister for the first time. Thanks to the continuous blessings of my fellow Indians, I am entering my 25th year of serving as the head of a Government. My gratitude to the people of India.
