New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a roundtable with Indian AI start-ups at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday, emphasising ethical innovation and assuring full government support ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
The meeting brought together 12 Indian AI start-ups that qualified under the Foundation Model Pillar of the upcoming summit. These start-ups presented their ideas and ongoing work to the Prime Minister, highlighting advances across multiple artificial intelligence domains.
According to officials, the participating Indian AI start-ups are working in areas such as Indian language foundation models, multilingual large language models, speech-to-text, text-to-audio, and text-to-video technologies. Other focus areas included generative AI for 3D content creation, engineering simulations, material research, advanced data analytics, and healthcare diagnostics.
The start-ups said the artificial intelligence sector in India was witnessing rapid growth. They observed that the centre of gravity of AI innovation and deployment was gradually shifting towards India. They also said the country now offered a strong and enabling ecosystem for AI development, placing India firmly on the global AI map.
Indian AI start-ups urged to build ethical and inclusive models
During the interaction, the Prime Minister underlined the transformative role of artificial intelligence in society. He said India would host the India AI Impact Summit next month and would play a significant role in shaping the global technology landscape.
Modi described start-ups and AI entrepreneurs as co-architects of India’s future. He said the country possessed both innovation capacity and the ability to deploy technology at scale. He added that India should offer the world AI solutions that reflect the vision of “Made in India, Made for the World.”
The Prime Minister stressed that trust in India was one of the country’s greatest strengths. He emphasised that Indian AI models must be ethical, unbiased, transparent, and built on strong data privacy principles. He also encouraged start-ups to aim for global leadership while promoting affordable and inclusive AI solutions.
Modi suggested that Indian AI models should promote local and indigenous content, including regional languages. He assured the Indian AI start-ups of full government support to ensure the success of their innovations.
The meeting was attended by representatives of AI start-ups including Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Gan, Genloop, Gnani, Intellihealth, Sarvam, Shodh AI, Soket AI, Tech Mahindra, and Zenteiq. Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada were also present.
