Bhopal: More than 42,000 beneficiaries received sanction letters for PMAY-U 2.0 houses in Madhya Pradesh, while 38,000 families performed grih pravesh in their newly constructed homes during a major housing programme held in Indore district.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal led the event at Sanwer on June 20 in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. State ministers Kailash Vijayvargiya and Pratima Bagri also attended the programme.
Under the initiative, the government sanctioned over 42,000 PMAY-U 2.0 houses with subsidy support of about ₹1,050 crore. As a result, thousands of eligible urban families will receive assistance to secure permanent housing.
In addition, 38,000 families entered their newly built pucca houses across different districts of the state. Altogether, the programme benefited more than 80,000 families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban scheme.
Addressing beneficiaries, Manohar Lal said every new house represents dignity, security and hope for a family. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving the Housing for All vision under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PMAY-U 2.0 houses strengthen affordable housing drive
Madhya Pradesh remains one of the top-performing states in implementing the housing scheme. According to official data, more than 10.39 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0.
Furthermore, authorities have completed over 9.08 lakh houses across the state. Therefore, the programme continues to improve access to safe and affordable housing for urban poor families.
Officials said the scheme provides more than shelter. It also improves access to essential services and livelihood opportunities. Moreover, the programme promotes women’s empowerment by mandating ownership in the name of a woman or through joint ownership.
The Centre said PMAY-U has transformed the lives of urban beneficiaries by providing permanent housing assets. Through PMAY-U 2.0, the government aims to expand affordable housing coverage further.
Under the scheme, an additional one crore EWS, LIG and MIG families will receive support. Eligible beneficiaries can obtain financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh to construct, purchase or rent a pucca house in urban areas.
