Ponguleti assures journalist welfare at TUWJ Iftar event

Hyderabad: Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy gave a journalist welfare assurance and said the government would take positive decisions to resolve issues faced by media persons.

He spoke as the chief guest at a Dawat-e-Iftar organised jointly by the Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) and the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation (TUWJF). The event took place at the Suravaram Pratap Reddy Auditorium in Basheerbagh.

During his address, the minister said the holy month of Ramadan symbolised discipline, patience, service and humanity. He added that such gatherings reflected communal harmony.

He also noted that the journalist welfare assurance reflected the government’s focus on addressing concerns raised by the media fraternity.

Journalist welfare assurance includes accreditation and housing issues

Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy prioritised the welfare of journalists. He stated that authorities would resolve several long-pending issues.

He assured that the government would ensure fairness in journalist accreditation. Officials would consider suggestions from journalists while reviewing accreditation committee decisions.

In addition, he said the government would take positive decisions on house site allocation and the issuance of health cards for journalists.

The minister stressed that recommendations from journalists would be considered in policy decisions. As a result, the journalist welfare assurance aimed to strengthen transparency in accreditation and welfare schemes.

Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy also highlighted the role of journalists in democracy. He said the media acted as a bridge between the government and the public.

According to him, journalists amplified the voices of marginalised communities and strengthened democratic accountability.

He also appreciated the initiative of organising Iftar gatherings beyond caste and religious barriers. He said such programmes promoted social harmony and unity.

Among those present were Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy, former IJU President Devulapalli Amar and Sultan-ul-Uloom Educational Institutions Secretary Zafar Javed.

Pista House CEO M.A. Majeed, TUWJ President K. Virahat Ali and General Secretary K. Rama Narayana also attended. TUWJF President M.A. Majeed and General Secretary Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin were present.

In addition, several office-bearers from journalist associations, including photojournalists and video journalists groups, attended the programme. Around 150 Urdu journalists participated in the event.
