Hyderabad: Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in China next week. The meeting will focus on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key global challenges.
Officials said the two leaders will review defence, energy, and trade partnerships, as well as cooperation in multilateral forums. They are also expected to discuss regional security, counter-terrorism, and the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
Putin to Meet Modi: Meeting underscores India-Russia strategic partnership
Diplomatic sources noted that this meeting highlights the enduring strategic partnership between India and Russia, despite shifting global alliances. India has maintained a balanced foreign policy, engaging with Russia while also strengthening ties with the United States and other Western nations.
Putin’s visit to China will also involve meetings with other regional leaders. However, his talks with Modi are being closely watched. Analysts believe the discussions will cover long-term energy cooperation and opportunities for Indian companies in Russia’s infrastructure projects.
The SCO Summit is expected to emphasise regional connectivity and counter-terrorism measures. India and Russia share common interests in both areas.
