Recruitment underway for 1.43 lakh non-gazetted posts in Indian Railways

New Delhi: Indian Railways has taken up railway recruitment for 1,43,086 non-gazetted vacancies under the Annual Calendar for 2024 and 2025, the government told the Lok Sabha.

In a written reply, Union Minister for Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Railways issued ten Centralised Employment Notifications during 2024 for 92,116 vacancies. These covered posts such as Assistant Loco Pilots, Technicians, RPF personnel, Junior Engineers, Paramedical staff and Level-1 categories.

He said the recruitment process attracted large participation across the country. Candidates appeared for computer-based tests in multiple cities and languages to ensure wider access.

First-stage or single-stage computer-based tests for 59,678 posts have been completed. These exams covered positions including ALPs, Technicians, Junior Engineers, RPF personnel, Paramedical categories and non-technical popular categories.

Railway recruitment progresses with panels finalised

The minister said second-stage computer-based tests have also concluded for several categories. In addition, the Railways completed aptitude and skill tests for posts requiring specialised assessment.

Computer-based aptitude tests were held for Assistant Loco Pilots and graduate-level non-technical categories. Similarly, typing and translation tests were conducted for ministerial and isolated categories.

Meanwhile, CBTs for 32,438 Level-1 vacancies began in November 2025 across 140 cities. The Railways also completed physical efficiency tests for RPF constable posts in December.

The minister said panels for more than 31,000 candidates have been finalised so far. These include posts such as Technicians, Junior Engineers, Paramedical staff, RPF Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Loco Pilots. Most of these positions fall under safety categories.

In addition, the Railways issued nine more employment notifications in 2025 for 50,970 vacancies. The minister said the recruitment drive aims to strengthen manpower and improve operational efficiency across zones.
