New Delhi: Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh told the Lok Sabha that central schemes accelerated fisheries and dairy growth in Chhattisgarh during the last three years.
He said the Ministry rolled out PMMSY, Rashtriya Gokul Mission, National Livestock Mission, AHIDF and Dairy Development Programmes in the state. These schemes targeted fisheries, livestock and dairy sectors. Moreover, the government prioritised women and beneficiaries from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Under PMMSY, the state increased fish seed production from 288 crore numbers in 2019-20 to 583 crore numbers in 2024-25. This jump marked a rise of about 102.43%. At the same time, fish production climbed from 5.72 lakh metric tonnes to 8.73 lakh metric tonnes. This reflected a growth of 52.62%.
Milk output also strengthened fisheries and dairy growth in the state. It rose from 11.82 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 to 20.76 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 under RGM and allied dairy efforts. As a result, farmers reported better income and improved livelihood security.
Infrastructure expansion drives fisheries and dairy growth
The state government sanctioned 25 fish hatcheries under PMMSY. It completed 21 hatcheries and advanced the remaining units at different stages. In addition, authorities set up fish feed manufacturing facilities across the state.
The state now runs one feed mill with a capacity of 100 tonnes per day. It also operates two feed plants of 20 tonnes per day capacity each. Further, five plants of 8 tonnes per day capacity each and two mini feed mills of 2 tonnes per day capacity each support local farmers.
The minister also shared scheme-wise progress figures in the House. Under PMMSY, authorities sanctioned 94 projects in the last three years. The total project cost reached ₹92,478.45 lakh. The Centre released ₹23,859.24 lakh and the state utilised ₹22,097.15 lakh.
Under Rashtriya Gokul Mission, officials trained 225 MAITRIs. They carried out 27,08,364 artificial inseminations and covered 19,66,094 animals. Additionally, 11,63,120 farmers benefitted under NAIP. The Centre released ₹1,161.69 lakh during the last three years and the current year.
Under National Livestock Mission, the state inducted 7,365 livestock and added 2,400 metric tonne per annum silage capacity. Authorities approved 27 projects with a project cost of ₹16.50 crore. They approved ₹6.19 crore as subsidy and released ₹1.89 crore.
Under AHIDF, officials approved 14 projects with a project cost of ₹686.06 crore. The government released ₹21.44 crore as 3% interest subvention. Likewise, under Dairy Development Programmes, authorities approved five projects with a project cost of ₹48.71 crore and a central share of ₹34.76 crore. They released ₹19.40 crore so far.
The minister said both governments set up a multi-layered monitoring system. They track projects through MIS and PFMS portals. Officials review physical and financial progress on a regular basis. Moreover, the Centre conducts mid-term and full-term third-party evaluations before extending any scheme. Based on these findings, authorities take corrective steps and shape future policy.
