New Delhi: A Rajya Sabha farewell was held for retiring members, with Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan praising their contributions and highlighting the importance of continuity in Parliament.
The farewell function took place at the Vice-President Enclave in New Delhi on March 18, 2026. A total of 26 members retired in 2025, while 73 members have retired or are retiring in 2026, including Deputy Chairman Harivansh.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who convened the organising committee, welcomed the Chairman and other dignitaries. The event brought together senior leaders and members to honour the outgoing parliamentarians.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman said the biennial transition of members reflected both continuity and change. He noted that experience made way for new perspectives while the spirit of the House remained constant.
He appreciated the contributions of retiring members and said their debates and commitment strengthened democratic values. He also expressed confidence that their experience would continue to guide public life.

During the ceremony, the Chairman presented mementoes to the retiring members. In addition, a cultural programme was organised in their honour.
The evening featured a folk dance performance of Bhavai, along with a classical recital and a musical ensemble. These events marked the occasion and celebrated the service of the members.
Among those present were Deputy Chairman Harivansh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Furthermore, the gathering underscored the role of parliamentary traditions in maintaining democratic continuity. It also highlighted the importance of experience in shaping legislative processes.
