Hyderabad: Residents of a high-rise in Mumbai’s Dahisar East endured panic on Sunday when a fire broke out in their 24-storey building. The blaze killed one woman, injured 18, and triggered a dramatic rescue.
The fire began around 3:00 pm on the seventh floor and spread across the tower. Faulty basement wiring was blamed for sparking the blaze, which traveled through the electrical duct.
Mumbai fire sparks tense rescue mission
Seven fire engines and multiple emergency units rushed to the scene. Despite heavy smoke, firefighters rescued 36 residents and moved them to hospitals.
A woman admitted to Rohit Hospital died later. A differently-abled girl and a four-year-old child remain critical. The operation continued into the evening as crews cooled down the site.
