Revanth Reddy inaugurates rejuvenated Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inaugurated the rejuvenated Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally and highlighted the state government’s focus on restoring lakes across Hyderabad.

He addressed residents after opening the restored lake in the Malkajgiri Parliamentary Constituency on Monday. The Chief Minister said the government will support development across all Assembly segments in the constituency.

He added that authorities will allocate development funds without considering political affiliations. According to him, development and welfare remain the government’s main priorities.

Revanth Reddy also recalled criticism faced during the launch of lake restoration works. However, he said the government continued the project despite those allegations.

Now, residents expressed satisfaction after the restoration of Nalla Cheruvu. Therefore, the Chief Minister said earlier criticism had ultimately helped highlight the project’s importance.

He also clarified that authorities do not intend to trouble the poor or demolish houses unnecessarily. Instead, the government wants to prevent hardships during heavy rains by protecting water bodies and drainage channels.

Nalla Cheruvu restoration part of wider lake revival plan

The Chief Minister urged people who encroached on lakes and drainage channels to come forward voluntarily. In return, he assured that the government would ensure fair and just solutions.

He also announced livelihood opportunities for women near restored lakes. Authorities plan to create spaces for stalls so women can run small businesses.

In addition, the government plans recreational areas and play spaces for children along lake bunds. These facilities will convert restored lakes into community spaces.

Revanth Reddy stressed that protecting lakes remains essential for Hyderabad’s urban planning. Moreover, he warned that many metropolitan cities face serious environmental challenges.

Therefore, the government aims to preserve the ecological balance by protecting water bodies across the city. He also reiterated the plan to rejuvenate the Musi River and restore lakes in the Core Urban Region.

Authorities will remove encroachments on drainage channels while expanding roads to improve city infrastructure. At the same time, the government will allocate funds for civic projects and urban development.

Earlier, the Chief Minister offered prayers to Goddess Gangamma near Nalla Cheruvu. He also visited Indira Mahila Shakti stalls and interacted with women participants.

Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, MLAs Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Arikepudi Gandhi and Ramchander Naik, MLC Naveen Kumar and senior officials attended the event.
