Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of acting like a “licensed land grabber” and strongly opposed the alleged university land sale on Tuesday.
At a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan, Dr. Sravan criticised the Chief Minister for attempting to sell lands belonging to educational institutions. He said the move was unethical and anti-people, especially since Revanth Reddy also held the Education portfolio.
According to Dr. Sravan, the government was pushing a university land sale under the pretext of development. He alleged that the Chief Minister was personally driving what he called a “license loot” to take control of thousands of acres across the state.
He specifically objected to the government’s reported attempt to grab 50 acres belonging to the Urdu University. He described the move as shameful and unacceptable. He also claimed that notices had been issued for lands linked to the Indian School of Business.
Raising governance concerns, Dr. Sravan asked whether the Cabinet had even discussed the university land sale proposal. He questioned if the Chief Minister was behaving like a gardener selling land at his own discretion. He said such actions showed disregard for institutional autonomy.
BRS demands halt to university land sale
Dr. Sravan said the Chief Minister did not need to sell university lands to remain in power or gain recognition. He stated that if Revanth Reddy could not govern without selling educational land, he should step down immediately.
Calling the move an attack on education, Dr. Sravan warned that people would not forgive the government. He said tampering with university lands amounted to playing with Goddess Saraswathi and harming future generations.
He challenged the Congress party’s claims of supporting minorities. He asked why the government remained silent on issues affecting the Urdu language and Urdu students. Therefore, he urged the Muslim community to oppose what he termed injustice against the Urdu University.
Listing demands, Dr. Sravan called for the immediate withdrawal of the notice issued to the Urdu University. He also demanded that the Chief Minister and Ministers stop all real estate dealings involving public land. He added that the BRS would stand with the Urdu University, as it had during the Kanche-Gachibowli land issue.
He said the idea of a university land sale was fundamentally wrong. While the government could sell land elsewhere, it must not touch educational institutions. He pointed out that the Maulana Azad National Urdu University, which runs 26 academic departments, already lacked adequate land.
Dr. Sravan demanded that the government allocate at least ₹1,000 crore for the university’s development. He concluded by saying the people of Telangana would never accept any attempt to encroach on university lands.
