Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy requested the Union government to allocate more IPS officers to Telangana to meet growing policing and administrative demands.
He raised the issue during a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday. Senior police officials also attended the discussion on law and order matters in the State.
The Chief Minister said the rapid expansion of Hyderabad increased the need for additional senior officers. Therefore, he urged the Centre to enhance the sanctioned strength of IPS officers in Telangana.
He noted that the first cadre review for the State was conducted in 2016 after Telangana’s formation. The next review, originally scheduled in 2021, faced delays and was conducted only in 2025.
Telangana seeks additional IPS officers after cadre review delay
Revanth Reddy said the Centre added only seven officers during the recent cadre review. At present, Telangana has 83 IPS officers. However, the State requested an increase to 105 officers to meet administrative needs.
He also informed the Union Home Minister about the reorganisation of police commissionerates in the Hyderabad region. The government recently created a new Future City Commissionerate after restructuring the existing three commissionerates.
The Chief Minister highlighted measures taken to maintain law and order. He referred to the Eagle Force established to control drug trafficking and the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau working against cybercrime.
The meeting also reviewed issues related to Maoist leaders who joined the mainstream and those who remain underground. Both leaders discussed surrender and rehabilitation policies.
Revanth Reddy said 591 Maoists laid down arms and joined mainstream society during the past two years. He described the trend as a positive development.
The Chief Minister also requested the Centre to support development initiatives in backward regions of Telangana.
Chief Secretary Sheshadri, Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy, Intelligence Chief Vijay Kumar and SIB IG Sumathi attended the meeting.
