SAIL records highest-ever January sales, best April–January FY26 performance

New Delhi: SAIL sales growth reached record levels in FY26, with the steel major posting its highest-ever January sales and best cumulative performance for the April–January period, the company said on Monday.

Steel Authority of India Limited recorded total sales of 16.6 million tonnes during April–January FY26. This marked a 16% rise over 14.3 million tonnes sold in the same period last year. The performance stood as the highest cumulative sales achieved by the company.

In January 2026 alone, SAIL sold 1.84 million tonnes of steel. This exceeded the 1.68 million tonnes sold in January last year and reflected a growth of over 10%. The higher sales also led to an inventory reduction of 0.25 million tonnes and a sharp decline in borrowings.

The company delivered strong results across dispatches, cash collections and customer deliveries. Officials said improved logistics and wider market reach supported the gains.

SAIL sales growth driven by dispatches and customer focus

SAIL achieved record dispatches from its steel plants during the period. It also expanded door-to-door deliveries and increased sales through warehouses. These steps strengthened customer access and improved supply chain efficiency.

The company said initiatives taken by its marketing vertical played a key role in the performance. The focus remained on customer-centric strategies and deeper market penetration.

By consistently surpassing past records and meeting business plan targets, SAIL said it continued to reinforce its role in supporting India’s industrial growth.
