KTR slams Telangana govt over school uniform orders controversy

Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao criticised the Telangana government over the school uniform orders controversy, alleging that the decision hurt handloom workers.

He questioned the cancellation of stitching orders given to the Telangana State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (TESCO) and their transfer to private firms. Therefore, he said the move weakened public institutions.

In a post on X, KTR asked whether the state was functioning as a “people’s government or a private limited company.” He also accused the administration of favouring private players.

KTR pointed out that a ₹105 crore school uniform order was withdrawn from TESCO. In addition, he questioned why another ₹200 crore order for clothes and blankets had not been issued.

KTR alleged that contracts were diverted to private firms for commissions. He described the move as part of a “Congress syndicate” driven by financial interests.

Moreover, he said the decision directly impacted handloom workers who depend on such orders for income. As a result, he warned that the cooperative sector could weaken further.

He added that lack of institutional support was pushing weavers into distress. Meanwhile, he cautioned that such policies could trigger public anger.

Separately, KTR paid tribute to Sardar Sarvai Papanna on his death anniversary. He described Papanna as a warrior who fought for the self-respect of backward communities.

He said Papanna’s legacy continues to inspire struggles for dignity and social justice.
