Hyderabad: Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir attended the state-organised Nizamabad Iftar programme on Monday evening and highlighted the government’s commitment to minority welfare initiatives.
The event took place at Khila Road in Nizamabad. During the gathering, the government distributed Ramzan Tohfa clothing kits to members of the Muslim community.
TPCC President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud and Urdu Academy Chairman Taher Bin Handan attended as chief guests. Several public representatives and community members also joined the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Shabbir Ali said Nizamabad reflects the spirit of Ganga–Jamuna Tehzeeb and communal harmony. He added that the holy month of Ramzan promotes discipline, compassion, and charity.
He said the government launched the Ramzan Tohfa initiative to help poor minority families celebrate the festival with dignity. Participants later offered special prayers after Iftar for peace and prosperity in the country.
Mahesh Kumar Goud also spoke at the Nizamabad Iftar event. He said the government is strengthening minority welfare through education and employment initiatives.
He highlighted scholarships for minority students, overseas education support, and the Shaadi Mubarak scheme for girls from economically weaker families.
Leaders highlight welfare measures during Nizamabad Iftar
Earlier in the day, Shabbir Ali and Mahesh Kumar Goud attended the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Nizamabad Urban Press Club office-bearers at Basava Garden.
Speaking to journalists, Shabbir Ali reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to media welfare. He said journalism remains the fourth pillar of democracy and protects democratic values.
He also assured that the long-pending demand for house sites for journalists in Nizamabad would be taken up with the government. In addition, he said health cards for journalists are under consideration.
Later, the leaders distributed cheques worth ₹3.24 crore to 324 beneficiaries under the Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi schemes at Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium in Nizamabad.
Officials said ₹1,94,22,504 went to 194 beneficiaries under Shaadi Mubarak. Meanwhile, ₹1,30,15,080 was distributed to 130 beneficiaries under Kalyana Lakshmi.
Shabbir Ali said the assistance helps ensure that the marriages of girls from poor families do not become a financial burden.
The leaders also handed over an insurance cheque of ₹75 lakh to the family of Rajeshwar, a Revenue Department senior assistant who died while on duty.
Shabbir Ali said the Revenue Department forms the backbone of government administration and connects the government with people. He added that employee issues would be raised with the Chief Minister.
Nizamabad Urban MLA Dhanpal Suryanarayana, Nizamabad Rural MLA Bhupathi Reddy, Mayor Uma Rani, NUDA Chairman Kesha Venu, corporators, journalists, and officials attended the programmes.
