Students protest after UKSSSC paper leak scandal raises unanswered questions

Dehradun: Thousands of students took to the streets across Uttarakhand following the recent UKSSSC paper leak scandal that has exposed serious security failures in the state’s examination system.

The Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission examination paper was allegedly leaked from Adarsh Bal Sadan Inter College in Bahadurpur Jat village, Haridwar district. Subsequently, the leaked paper was distributed through mobile phones, prompting widespread student demonstrations.

Commission officials had previously claimed that strict security measures were in place at examination centres. Moreover, candidates underwent thorough searches before entering the premises. Additionally, regulations prohibited any items except admit cards, pens, money, and vehicle keys inside the examination halls. Furthermore, even jewelry items like rings and chains were confiscated at entry points.

Despite these security protocols, the examination paper was photographed and transmitted outside the centre using mobile devices. Consequently, investigators are questioning how mobile phones entered the secured premises in the first place.

UKSSSC paper leak investigation reveals security gaps

Officials stated that signal jammers were installed at examination centers to prevent communication devices from functioning. However, the successful transmission of leaked papers suggests either that the jammers were not operational or deliberately compromised. Therefore, authorities are investigating whether the accused individual, Khalid, was the only person with a mobile device inside the centre.

As a result of the security breach, Inspector Rohit Kumar and Constable Brahmdutt Joshi, who were on duty at the examination centre, faced suspension. Nevertheless, the core questions surrounding the incident remain unresolved.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the BJP-led Dhami government over the scandal. He posted on the social media platform X, stating that the BJP had become synonymous with paper theft. Additionally, he argued that repeated paper leaks nationwide had destroyed the lives and dreams of millions of hardworking youth. He cited the UKSSSC paper leak as the latest example of this systemic failure.
