Swavlamban 2025 showcases naval innovation drive

Hyderabad: The Indian Navy held a curtain raiser press conference in New Delhi on 20 November 2025 ahead of the fourth edition of the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) Seminar, Swavlamban 2025. Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, chaired the briefing and outlined the event’s major themes, priorities and expected outcomes. He emphasised that Swavlamban 2025 will highlight the Navy’s widening innovation ecosystem and the growing contributions of India’s defence industry.

Scheduled for 25 and 26 November at the Manekshaw Centre, the seminar will focus on emerging and disruptive technologies that address evolving security needs. VCNS noted that the Navy continues to make steady progress towards Aatmanirbharta in defence, supported by the event’s theme, Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation. The theme underlines the service’s pursuit of collaborative, cutting-edge solutions tailored to operational challenges.

Swavlamban 2025 highlights emerging technologies and industry-led innovation

This year’s edition will feature dedicated exhibit zones showcasing success stories, including systems developed through the complete ideation-to-induction cycle. Sessions during the seminar will examine policy frameworks, procedures and technological models that can accelerate the adoption of indigenous capabilities. Expert-led panels will provide insights into new technology trends, disruptive innovations and their relevance to the maritime domain.

A dedicated interaction with venture capitalists will explore funding opportunities, potential scaling pathways and mechanisms to nurture promising ideas. The seminar will also include the launch of the Innovathon, the release of the Compendium of Technology Challenges and Problem Statements, and the unveiling of the Swavlamban 4.0 document as well as the Armament Indigenisation Compendium.

Swavlamban 2025 aims to bring innovators, industry partners, start-ups, MSMEs and academia together to collaborate, deliberate and shape future naval capability development. The Indian Navy expects the event to strengthen the national innovation landscape and contribute to long-term maritime readiness.
