Bihar: Union Health Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda met Members of Parliament from Bihar at the Extended Parliament House Annexe as part of intensified outreach under the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.’ The interaction followed similar meetings with MPs from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. It also formed part of a wider effort to strengthen national progress toward TB elimination.
The meeting brought together Union Ministers Shri Giriraj Singh, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Shri Ram Nath Thakur, Dr Raj Bhushan Choudhary and Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, along with several parliamentarians from Bihar. By engaging MPs from both Houses, the discussion under the theme “Parliamentarians Championing a TB-Mukt Bharat” reinforced a shared political commitment to advance India’s fight against Tuberculosis.
Bihar MPs urged to lead community action and expand TB elimination efforts
While addressing the gathering, Shri Nadda highlighted India’s progress. He noted a 21% decline in TB incidence from 2015 to 2024 and a 90% treatment success rate. He added that Bihar’s gains in screening, outreach and patient support will further strengthen India’s national response.
The Minister also identified areas where MPs can guide public mobilisation. These include raising awareness to reduce stigma and promoting early detection through Ni-kshay Shivirs. He emphasised the need to monitor TB service quality at district and block levels and to encourage community participation. In addition, he urged MPs to support Ni-kshay Mitras who provide nutritional, psychosocial and livelihood assistance to TB patients.
MPs reaffirmed their commitment to expand awareness, improve diagnostic access and ensure patient-centred care for all communities in Bihar.
Union Health Secretary Smt Punya Salila Srivastava presented India’s evolving strategy. She outlined plans to scale up AI-enabled diagnostics, intensify screening and enhance patient support. Additional Secretary and Mission Director Smt Aradhana Patnaik shared achievements under the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ and explained how parliamentary leadership can further strengthen the state’s response.
