Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday said that Telangana activists justice has not been delivered to movement participants and families of martyrs even after statehood.
She addressed the Atma Gaurava Sabha organised by Telangana Jagruthi at RTC Kalyana Mandapam in Baghlingampally. Representatives of more than ten organisations and a large number of activists attended the meeting.
Kavitha stated that after the formation of Telangana, activists expected dignity, economic stability and political opportunities. However, she said those expectations remain unfulfilled. She recalled that various groups united under the Telangana Joint Action Committee during the statehood movement and fought a prolonged struggle to achieve statehood.
She said Telangana’s history reflects continuous sacrifice, from Ramji Gond to Komaram Bheem and several youth who laid down their lives. According to her, only a few individuals benefited after coming to power, while many activists felt neglected.
Kavitha seeks Telangana activists justice in Budget
Kavitha criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and said the Congress government must honour promises made to activists before elections. She demanded that the upcoming Budget session, beginning February 26, allocate clear provisions for activist recognition, establishment of a welfare board and protection of their rights.
She also urged leaders such as Prof Kodandaram and Akunuri Murali to question the government over unfulfilled assurances. If the government fails to act, she said, people will hold it accountable.
Kavitha announced that Telangana Jagruthi will continue its struggle, which she described as a movement to protect Telangana’s identity. She demanded 20 per cent reservations for Telangana youth in private institutions and said the organisation would pursue this demand.
She expressed concern that officials now question who qualifies as an activist. To address this, Telangana Jagruthi has launched an app for activists to register their names. She said the organisation would try to provide health insurance support to registered members.
Kavitha concluded that many families of martyrs still await assistance. Drawing inspiration from past fighters, she said Telangana Jagruthi will persist in its efforts until justice is ensured for all activists and their families.
