Congress emerges largest party in Telangana municipal polls

Hyderabad: Telangana municipal election results saw Congress emerge as the largest party across urban local bodies in the State. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge hailed the verdict as a reflection of growing public trust.

Authorities declared the results on February 13 after polling on February 11. Out of 116 municipalities, Congress secured more than 64 and established a clear edge. Telangana has 2,582 wards in total. Congress won 1,347 wards, while the BRS secured 716. The BJP followed with 261 wards.

The party also captured all seven municipal corporations in the State. However, 38 municipalities delivered hung verdicts as no party secured a majority. Even so, Congress leaders expressed confidence about gaining control in several of these civic bodies.

Telangana municipal election results draw Kharge’s praise

Reacting to the Telangana municipal election results, Kharge congratulated winning candidates and thanked voters. He said the verdict strengthened faith in the party’s governance model.

Kharge stated that the Telangana Congress aimed to ensure social justice for 3.8 crore people. He added that the government remained committed to economic empowerment and sustained development.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy returned to Hyderabad after a visit to Delhi and is expected to comment on the outcome. He reportedly responded through social media. Congress also won Kodangal municipality, which he represents.

Authorities will conduct elections for chairpersons and vice-chairpersons on February 16.
