New Delhi: The Third Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre is progressing steadily and is scheduled for completion by March 2029, the government informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
The Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh, said geotechnical investigations and topographical surveys concluded in the third quarter of 2025. These activities followed financial approval granted on March 21, 2025.
Subsequently, authorities configured all major systems and initiated the tendering process. So far, two tenders have already been floated.
Meanwhile, civil works have begun on the ground. These include the construction of approach roads and the establishment of temporary power supply facilities.
Key infrastructure planned at the new launch pad
Several critical milestones remain under execution. These include propellant storage and servicing systems, a mobile launch pedestal, lightning protection towers, and rail tracks connecting vehicle integration buildings.
In addition, engineers will construct the jet deflection duct, which plays a vital role during rocket launches. Once completed, the facility will significantly enhance India’s launch capacity.
Private industries and MSMEs will participate actively in implementing the project. The government plans to float all remaining tenders under existing procurement norms. Moreover, the process will prioritise Make-in-India provisions.
Dr. Singh stated that the Third Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre will strengthen India’s space infrastructure and support future launch vehicle programmes.
The new facility will also reduce dependence on existing launch pads, ensuring greater operational flexibility for ISRO’s growing mission profile.
