Hyderabad: Three passengers were killed and more than 15 others were injured when a private bus collided with a lorry on the Sirivella National Highway in Nandyal district on Wednesday.
The accident occurred near Sirivella Metta while an AR BCVR Travels bus was travelling from Nellore to Hyderabad. According to preliminary information, a tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the bus.
As a result, the bus crossed the road divider and rammed into an oncoming lorry. Soon after the collision, the bus caught fire, causing panic among passengers.
Local residents and passers-by rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured. Emergency services later shifted the injured passengers to the Nandyal Government Hospital for treatment.
Police begin probe into Sirivella crash cause
District Superintendent of Police Sunil Sheran visited the accident site and reviewed the situation. He instructed officials to expedite relief measures and ensure proper medical care for the injured.
Meanwhile, police launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the Sirivella crash. Officials said they were examining vehicle conditions and eyewitness accounts.
Traffic on the highway remained disrupted for some time following the accident. However, authorities later cleared the damaged vehicles and restored normal movement.
Police said further details would emerge after the investigation progresses.
