Tolichowki tragedy: Dasoju Sravan questions illegal building permissions

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan demanded answers from civic authorities after the Tolichowki tragedy, where two people fell from the seventh floor of a building and died, while others on the road suffered serious injuries.

The incident occurred in Tolichowki colony. Two persons fell from the top floor of the building and died on the spot. At the same time, people travelling in an auto and a car on the road below sustained serious injuries.

Dr. Sravan expressed deep sorrow over the incident. However, he questioned how authorities allowed a seven-storey building on a plot measuring less than 300 square yards.

He asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to clarify how such construction permission was granted. He also questioned why officials failed to act despite illegal constructions spreading across the city.

According to him, the Tolichowki tragedy raised serious concerns about safety norms and urban planning in Hyderabad.

Tolichowki tragedy raises questions on GHMC and HYDRA oversight

Dr. Sravan alleged that officials were granting illegal construction permissions after accepting bribes. As a result, he said, citizens’ lives were being placed at risk.

He also said fire accidents and building-related mishaps had increased recently. Therefore, he blamed the government for failing to enforce safety regulations.

The BRS leader criticised the administration for demolishing houses of poor residents while ignoring large-scale illegal constructions in the city.

He demanded that HYDRA officials and the District Collector immediately respond to the Tolichowki tragedy. He also called for a thorough inquiry and strict action against those responsible.

Dr. Sravan further asked the government to provide the best medical treatment to the injured victims.

In addition, he demanded compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of those who died in the Tolichowki tragedy.

The MLC also alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy appeared more focused on real estate interests than on public safety. According to him, the incident exposed serious negligence by authorities.
