TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud targets Pawan Kalyan, BJP ahead of Telangana municipal polls

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday targeted Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan ahead of the Telangana municipal polls, calling him an anti-Telangana leader and asking him to focus on Andhra Pradesh politics.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud said Pawan Kalyan had repeatedly spoken against Telangana in the past. He claimed that the Jana Sena chief would find no public support in the state during the Telangana municipal polls.

Goud also predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party would fail to win even a single seat in the upcoming civic elections. He accused the BJP of attempting to provoke voters on religious lines. He said Telangana voters had rejected similar tactics during the Jubilee Hills by-election.

The TPCC chief said the Congress remained confident that voters would oppose divisive politics. He added that the party would focus on governance and development issues during the campaign.

Telangana municipal polls: TPCC attacks BJP over funds and federal issues

Mahesh Kumar Goud accused the BJP-led central government of denying Telangana its rightful share of development funds. He said the Centre failed to honour commitments under the State Reorganisation Act.

He cited unfulfilled promises, including the Bayyaram Steel Plant, national status for irrigation projects and the establishment of Indian Institutes of Management. He alleged that these delays hurt Telangana’s growth.

Goud claimed Telangana contributed ₹4.32 lakh crore in GST over the past five years but received only ₹3.76 lakh crore in return. He alleged that the Centre diverted tax revenues to northern states, especially Gujarat.

The TPCC chief also accused the Centre of cutting ₹90,000 crore in budgetary allocations meant for women. He questioned the silence of Telangana’s eight BJP MPs and two Union ministers on the issue.

He said Telangana continued to push development under the Telangana Rising 2047 policy. However, he alleged that the Centre failed to support key sectors such as roads, metro rail, pharmaceuticals and tourism.
