UMEED portal records over 6.29 lakh waqf properties, Centre clarifies

New Delhi: The Ministry of Minority Affairs clarified that the UMEED portal recorded 6,29,527 waqf properties as of March 2, 2026, amid reports on documentation progress under the UMEED Act, 2025.

The Ministry highlighted the factual position on waqf property documentation. It also appreciated the cooperation extended by State Waqf Boards. According to officials, States worked with commitment to upload property details within the prescribed timeline.

Under the UMEED Act, 2025, authorities provided six months from June 6, 2025 to upload details of waqf properties. This deadline ended on December 6, 2025. However, the Act allows Waqf Tribunals to grant extensions of up to six months if they find valid grounds.

Accordingly, the Ministry granted extensions to 17 States and Union Territories from February 2026 onwards. These extensions ranged from two to six months. Officials said they issued them strictly as per the Act.

Validation status of waqf properties under UMEED portal

As per data available on March 2, 2026, authorities validated and approved 2,87,695 properties after verification. In contrast, they rejected 38,083 properties following scrutiny. Meanwhile, officials continued to process the remaining initiated properties.

The Ministry said the framework aims to streamline waqf property documentation and improve transparency in record management. In addition, it reiterated that authorities would closely monitor uploads and validation. Therefore, officials will ensure compliance and accuracy under the law.
