Kota: Indian Railways on Tuesday successfully completed the Commissioner of Railway Safety’s high-speed trial of the Vande Bharat sleeper train, which touched a top speed of 180 kmph on the Kota–Nagda section.
The CRS supervised the final trial of the indigenously designed and manufactured 16-coach train. Officials said the successful run marked an important step in India’s efforts to build advanced and self-reliant rail systems.
During the trial, technical teams carried out comprehensive evaluations. These included checks on ride stability, oscillation and vibration behaviour, braking performance, emergency braking response, and onboard safety systems. Officials confirmed that the train met all required parameters at high speed.
Based on the observations, the CRS declared the trial successful. Railway authorities said the clearance validated the safety, performance and reliability of the new sleeper variant.
The train has been designed for long-distance overnight journeys. It offers comfortable berths, modern toilets, automatic doors, advanced suspension, CCTV surveillance and integrated fire safety systems.

High-speed run demonstrates advanced rail technology
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the high-speed run on social media. The visuals highlighted the smooth performance of the rake on the Kota–Nagda stretch.
The video also showed a water-glass stability demonstration conducted during the run. Glasses filled with water remained steady without spillage, even at maximum speed. Officials said this reflected superior suspension design and ride comfort.
Railway officials said the successful trial brought the Vande Bharat sleeper train closer to induction into regular service. They added that the project would set new benchmarks for safety, comfort and efficiency in long-distance rail travel.
