Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the state government will construct the Velugumatla model colony for poor families in Khammam district headquarters.
He said the project aims to create a housing colony that people from across the country can visit and study as a model development initiative.
The government will build Indiramma houses for all eligible beneficiaries. It will also provide full civic infrastructure within the colony.
Facilities will include electricity, drinking water supply, internal roads, a hospital, a community hall, and a shopping complex.
Bhatti Vikramarka directed officials to begin construction of the houses from Thursday. He also asked them to complete the entire Velugumatla model colony by December 9.
He said three ministers would jointly invite Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to inaugurate the colony once construction is completed.
The Deputy Chief Minister added that the houses must be ready for housewarming ceremonies by the inauguration date. According to him, the project reflects the government’s commitment to improving living conditions for poor families.
Velugumatla model colony to house 412 beneficiaries and public institutions
Bhatti Vikramarka said officials identified 412 eligible beneficiaries in Velugumatla village. Authorities have already distributed house site pattas to them without discrimination.
Each beneficiary will receive an Indiramma house under the Velugumatla model colony project.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government will also use the remaining 16 acres of land in the village for public institutions.
This land became available after house sites were allotted to eligible families.
He said the government plans to construct a Telangana Public School and other educational institutions on this land to serve the local population.
In addition, authorities issued permission letters to 101 poor beneficiaries from different districts. These families can construct Indiramma houses on available land in their respective villages.
Bhatti Vikramarka criticised previous governments for failing to deliver housing for the poor. He said earlier rulers promised houses for a decade but did not build even one.
According to him, those who failed to fulfil the promise have no moral right to criticise the present government.
He also alleged that some groups are spreading misinformation to damage the government’s image because they do not want the poor to benefit from welfare schemes.
The Deputy Chief Minister further claimed that a mafia network operated in Velugumatla for several years.
He said the network collected money from poor families but failed to provide basic facilities.
The government has now intervened to stop such practices and ensure that poor families live with dignity, he added.
Bhatti Vikramarka also urged officials and beneficiaries to remain alert and prevent exploitative groups from operating again.
